Hello

I have a 512MB Xpertvision Nvidia graphics card which supports SLI. I have been looking for the same card so i can connect them together using SLI technology.

Nvidia 8600 GT 1GB

Nvidia 8600 GT 512MB (My current card)

I'd like to connect these cards together, but after watching a youtube video i've been made to believe the cards have to be exactly the same. Although these cards are very similar. Would i be able to use them together using SLI?

Nope.

I know from experience that mixing cards dosent work well.. Especially when there's a difference in the size of the RAM!

Urgh, SLI... I dont like it! Dosent work well...

You will, but it might not have any beneficiary effects if the RAM sizes are different. You're best looking for one which is the exact same as yours.

You will, but the second card will mimic the lowest spec in the bundle. So, you will get the lowest clock speed of the two, and only 512mb of vRAM per card.

Ahh ok. Well i have found the 1GB card in a sale at my local computer shop for only £30.

So if i connected my current 512mb card with the 1GB card, both of them would work as just 1GB card?

But that would be the same result than if i was to have 2x 512MB cards, or would it be slightly better?

It would be the same thing as if you had 2x 512mb cards.

8 series cards are able to pair with non-identical cards, but like I said, it runs with the lowest cards spec (x2 of course). I would imagine using two different cards would probably make it slightly less stable as well.
